spring essentials series part 2: shirts

with the spring, the best look to have is a super-prep. some people think i'm talking about wearing Hollister, American Eagle, Abrecombie, or Ralph Lauren when i say prep...no. i'm talking about dress shirts, collard shirts, bowties, neckties, cardigans, etc. you can dress like a prep in the winter, but the bright and vibrant colors look the best with the spring weather. once again, there are places that sell dress shirts and ties for way to much money, when you could buy them for a lot cheaper if you do the looking! to the left are different color dress shirts. try to stay away from the plain white and black. try red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and everything in between! also, go for different-patterned dress shirts to add some variety and dimensions to your outfit.

another aspect of spring fashion are bowties. bowties automatically add a classic look to your outfits. most of the time you can get by with the clip-on bowties if you're wearing just to wear them. but if you want to go for the designer high-fashion look, go with the traditional bowties that you actually have to tie. my favorite types of bowties are the plaid ones. plaid is also good because you have more color variety to mix and match with. striped bowties are also a favorite of mine. in the spring time, try to stay away from the solid colors. but if you have to, try vibrant colors.

neckties are another big thing with spring preppy-ness. the fat and thick ties are okay but they're getting old...fast! get on the skinny and long ties. any color skinny tie is good. you don't need to button your shirt up all the way. having the first button unbottened on your shirt (like this guy on the left) adds a rough look to your outfit.

*you can mix it up a bit and keep them guessing. you don't have to stick to the traditional solid shirt with a striped/plaid tie. mix it up a bit-plaid w/ stripes, stripes w/ plaid, etc. if you're one who likes to be bold in the fashion world, wear a necktie with a collard shirt and see how you like it!
