spring essentials series part 3: pants

i can honestly say that pants are the easiest topic for spring fashion, beside accessories.

try to get away from the dark-colored jeans!! for the most parts, stay clear of the blacks, grays, and navys. remember, spring is all about color and you can even show it in your pants.

if you just have to throw on a pair of skinnies when you go out, go with white or even light blue instead of the darker colors. white adds a suttleness to your outfit, and if you're wearing a colorful shirt (like we talked about!), it balances it out.

hands down, khakis are my favorite pants for the spring. they add a classic look to your outfit, and they can go with almost anything. whether cardigans, plaid shirts, or dress shirts. the kinds to the right are good because they give you the color that you want, but they don't look so formal, like slacks/trousers. rolling them up, letting your ankles show, and wearing ankle or no socks at all is a hot look!

don't get me wrong-the formal look is classy too. if you want to match it up with a dress shirt, a bowtie, khaki slacks, and some colored chuck taylor's for fun, you can still get a memorable look. if you do go for this look, just make sure that your pants aren't too baggy, or you'll just look like a churchboy-wannabe-thug...LOL. if they're a little short, stopping right before or at your ankles, it looks much better.

my right hand man

no matter how good your work is, or how good you are at something, you will always need someone to back you up. that's why I have Rodney Woodard, the men's style consultant for Fly By Nature. I know that smart people hire smarter people to work for them. We're both stylish and can dress, but most of the time he knows those little touches that can make or break your entire outfit. I design the outfits for Fly By Nature, but he always edits them. sometimes I'll put something together and he tells me if it's dope or if it looks a mess...LOL. he's not stuck on the brands, that's why I use the word style instead of fashion. he's one of my best friends that isn't afraid to keep it real with me, and I know what he's talking about.

my thoughts of the day

wow...so when's the last time i've done one of these? haha. i first of just want to say thank you to all of my fans and followers. i'm slowly but steadily progressing. not just by the number of followers that i have, but aslo by the number of people giving me supporting comments and continuing to encourage me and everything i do. i cannot express how thankful i am to you all. without you, this truely would not be possible! recently (April 21st) i turned fifteen years old. i had my dinner last friday night. i meant to make an episode on the Road To Success about it, but kentrell couldn't make it. last year on my birthday, i became a year older, but i didn't really feel any different. this year i can actually feel being fifteen. it's not about the fact that i'm getting older, it's just that i don't think the way i did one year ago. me starting this blogspot, creating FBN, and Taking Flight are prime examples of new thinking. now the lyrics 'an innovative teen taking life by the wings' are really starting to describe myself. i guess the mildstone for me turning fourteen was for me to not care about what others think, because in the words of Dr. Suess, 'those who don't matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.' the mildstone for me being fifteen is realizing that every day everyone in this world, rather successful or unsuccessful, wake up with 24 hours in the day. it's how you use those 24 hours each day that sets you apart from the two. even though i'm young, i know that i have to be an advocate for myself. when i want something done, i know that 99.9% of the time i'm the one that needs to do it. nothing is ever given to anyone in this world, so i do what i can to get it myself...

spring essentials series part 2: shirts

with the spring, the best look to have is a super-prep. some people think i'm talking about wearing Hollister, American Eagle, Abrecombie, or Ralph Lauren when i say prep...no. i'm talking about dress shirts, collard shirts, bowties, neckties, cardigans, etc. you can dress like a prep in the winter, but the bright and vibrant colors look the best with the spring weather. once again, there are places that sell dress shirts and ties for way to much money, when you could buy them for a lot cheaper if you do the looking! to the left are different color dress shirts. try to stay away from the plain white and black. try red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and everything in between! also, go for different-patterned dress shirts to add some variety and dimensions to your outfit.

another aspect of spring fashion are bowties. bowties automatically add a classic look to your outfits. most of the time you can get by with the clip-on bowties if you're wearing just to wear them. but if you want to go for the designer high-fashion look, go with the traditional bowties that you actually have to tie. my favorite types of bowties are the plaid ones. plaid is also good because you have more color variety to mix and match with. striped bowties are also a favorite of mine. in the spring time, try to stay away from the solid colors. but if you have to, try vibrant colors.

neckties are another big thing with spring preppy-ness. the fat and thick ties are okay but they're getting old...fast! get on the skinny and long ties. any color skinny tie is good. you don't need to button your shirt up all the way. having the first button unbottened on your shirt (like this guy on the left) adds a rough look to your outfit.

*you can mix it up a bit and keep them guessing. you don't have to stick to the traditional solid shirt with a striped/plaid tie. mix it up a bit-plaid w/ stripes, stripes w/ plaid, etc. if you're one who likes to be bold in the fashion world, wear a necktie with a collard shirt and see how you like it!

spring essentials series PART 1: getting aHEAD

so i said that i was going to start from head to toe. so first off is hat that i think should be worn most in the spring-time-the fedoras (straw ones are probably the best)

fedoras will automatically add class to whatever you're wearing-even if you're not wearing a dress shirt and a necktie/bowtie. the best thing to do is to tilt it up when you wear it, so that you can see your whole forehead, and the beginnings of your front and side hairlines. they usually run at about $35-$65. however, you don't have to spend this much to pull off the look. i just brought a straw fedora from Walmart for $10, and it still has the same affect.

this hat above, is from H&M for $7.95. that's super cheap for a hat, but depending on how you wear it, it can still have the same effect as a hat that my cost a lot more.

this hat above however, is from JJ Hat Center, and it costs $110. it's a very nice hat, but if it were me, i wouldn't pay that much money for a hat that you wouldn't wear year-round.

this fedora that i have on in this picture below only costs me $10 at wall mart. but the way i'm wearing it, makes it seem like it costs as much as the one from JJ Hat Center.

upcoming..SPRING ESSENTIALS SERIES

BIG The Musical

this weekend i performed in the musical for my school, BIG. it was a huge success! i was the only underclassmen that played a leading role. it was fun, but challenging at the same time. i had several costume changes. i know a lot was expected from me, and i feel as though i reached everyone's expectations. it will be a memorable performance, being my first high school musical...LOL
